Chinese vocational education supports talent cultivation in Cambodia

I want to strive to study abroad in China! "Meng Meimei, a new undergraduate student from Cambodia China University of Applied Sciences, excitedly told reporters.


The opening ceremony of the first batch of undergraduate students at Cambodia China University of Applied Sciences was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia recently. Meng Meimei, along with nine other freshmen, stepped onto the podium and received the Outstanding Student Scholarship certificate with a bright smile. Meng Meimei is 18 years old this year and will soon start studying e-commerce at Cambodia University of Applied Sciences. She loves the school's curriculum and campus environment and is looking forward to learning Chinese and professional knowledge here.


Cambodia China University of Applied Sciences is jointly established by Nanjing University of Technology in China and the Cambodia China Council. It is the first overseas applied technology university for vocational education in China, offering undergraduate education. Students can obtain diplomas and degree certificates from both China and Cambodia at the same time. The school will unveil its plaque in Phnom Penh in December 2023, with a total of 160 undergraduate students and 400 non degree students enrolled in the first school enterprise cooperation order class. The first batch of six undergraduate majors offered are New Energy Power Generation Engineering Technology, Automotive Service Engineering Technology, Network Engineering Technology, E-commerce, Modern Logistics Management, and Tourism Management.


Like Meng Meimei, Sovanna is also the first undergraduate student of Cambodia University of Applied Sciences. He told reporters that he did not hesitate to apply for enrollment after learning that the school has well-equipped teaching facilities, professional lecturers from both Cambodia and China teach, and students can obtain diplomas and degrees from both countries at the same time.


I hope to work in logistics management in the future, "said Sovanna." I believe the professional knowledge and skills I have learned here can help me better engage in related fields after graduation


Zhou Hui, a teacher majoring in Network Engineering Technology at Cambodia University of Applied Sciences, introduced to reporters that most of the lecturers at the university are selected and sent from domestic undergraduate institutions in China. The teaching staff are all master's degree or above and have rich teaching experience. The school is equipped with comprehensive teaching facilities, including advanced experimental training rooms and computer rooms, which can meet the needs of professional learning. The school mainly adopts a combination of Chinese training and professional skills education, enabling students to master both Chinese and vocational skills, and meet the employment needs of enterprises after graduation.


Zhou Hui said that as soon as the first batch of undergraduate freshmen enrolled, Chinese funded enterprises offered olive branches to the school and "reserved" professional talents.


It is reported that Cambodia University of Applied Sciences collaborates with enterprises through a school enterprise cooperation model in talent cultivation, professional development, faculty building, scientific research services, and other areas. The school combines the needs of enterprises and the characteristics of students, taking "skills+Chinese" as the starting point, to help students improve various abilities and skills, and serve the economic and social development of Cambodia.


At the opening ceremony, a school enterprise cooperation award and scholarship ceremony was also held, and 63 outstanding students were awarded scholarships and school enterprise cooperation targeted training grants.


Zheng Yuanlai, the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the Cambodia China Council, stated at the opening ceremony that the cooperation between the Cambodia China Council and Nanjing Vocational and Technical University to jointly build the Cambodia China University of Applied Science and Technology aims to create a highland for vocational education talent cultivation in Cambodia and contribute to deepening the friendship between Cambodia and China. He hopes that students can learn skills well, practice Chinese well, and become pillars of Cambodia's national development and ambassadors for deepening Cambodia China friendship.
